Non-Destructive Testing of Tanks
Our team of qualified and trained welding inspectors are able to perform NDT testing on a variety of storage tanks, bins and pressure vessels, including autoclaves.
There are a number of different methods used to perform NDT test tanks, such as bins and pressure vessels including Magnetic Particle Testing, Ultrasonic Testing, and Vacuum Box Testing. These methods are each incredibly useful in looking for deficiencies in a different way.
When a tank or pressure vessel needs to be inspected, but it is not possible to test from the inside, we would work with the owner of the equipment and or the engineering team to determine what information is needed for the analysis or decision that needs to be made. Typically a combination of Magnetic Particle Testing and Ultrasonic Testing are chosen and test both the thickness of the material for corrosion and the welded seams for any cracks or deficiencies.
When a tank or pressure vessels needs to be inspected from the inside, a number of test methods can be used. But first we have to remember all the safety that is required before we enter a tank! A tank or pressure vessel is a confined space and careful attention needs to be made to the air quality and to the access and egress of the unit. Once the safety plan is in place, and the space has adequate air quality, the inspector enters the vessel with their tools to begin the inspection.
In addition to MPT and UT testing, Vacuum Box Testing may be used on the weld seams. Vacuum box testing allows the inspector to quickly check a relatively large area of weld seam for any leakage.
Along with our team of qualified and competent inspectors, we work together with an experienced team of Mechanical and Welding Engineers to provide engineering analysis, Weld Repairs and Finite element analysis of your tanks and pressure vessels.
We look forward to the opportunity to work with you!
